Rupert has been Chief Executive Officer of Inmarsat, the leading global mobile satellite communications operator, since 2012. Rupert joined Inmarsat in 2005 as Group General Counsel and between 2009 and 2011 held the position of Senior Vice President, Inmarsat Enterprises.
Previously, Rupert worked for Atlas Venture, a transatlantic venture capital firm, where he was a partner working on investment, divestment, M&A and corporate finance transactions. Prior to that he was a partner at international law firm Linklaters, where he specialised in corporate finance, M&A and private equity transactions.
Rupert received an MA (First Class) in Modern History from Oxford University and won the 1995 Fullbright Fellowship in U.S. securities law, studying at the Georgetown Law Center. He has been a visiting fellow of the Imperial College Business School, London lecturing on the school’s Entrepreneurship programme, and is co-author of ‘Raising Venture Capital’ (Wiley).
Rupert is Chairman of ESOA, the EMEA satellite industry trade body representing more than 20 satellite operators; a Commissioner on the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development; a Board member of techUK, the trade body representing UK technology industries; and a member of the Steering Committee of the Smart Africa Initiative.
